Summerland Swim Club Hires New Head Coach
Tom Best to Lead ORCA Swimmers in Coming Season
Summerland BC., July 16, 2008- The ORCA Swim Club today announced that Tom Best has been selected as the head coach of the organization. Coach Best's duties will include the direction and development of the youth and Masters programs.
A NCCP Swimming Level 3 Coach and former Ontario Swim Coaches Association "Coach of the Year" (1989, 1994), Tom Best has demonstrated a passion for coaching and developing athletes at all levels of ability from novice to national caliber. Athletes participating in his programs have ascended to set national age group records and to represent Canada at the international level.
In the announcement Tom Brickenden, Vice President of ORCA, noted that "Coach Best possesses the knowledge and experience that we are looking for to further advance the club. His coaching philosophy balances performance and fun, recognizing that through sport, young athletes can learn and develop valuable life skills while fostering a sense of community." Mike Cooke, ORCA Masters representative and swimmer, pointed out the club's interest in acquiring a coach who would skillfully evaluate the performance of athletes of all ages and abilities, thereby assisting team members to achieve their personal goals."
Coach Best's arrival is timed perfectly with the club's largest event of the year - the ORCA Sprint Triathlon to be held on August 31, 2008. The ORCA Swim Club will host athletes from all over the Okanagan Valley and western Canada for a day of racing that includes both a Kids of Steel and adult sprint triathlon. Coach Best will have a valuable opportunity to interact with ORCA swimmers, parents, volunteers and members of the local business community.
